The beer festival gives the organizers of the event the ability to recruit a lot of people to come to the event which is great for everyone involved. Triptych Brewing from Savoy, Ill. will also be making its first appearance at the event. Triptych is a small microbrew that got its start with the help of a Kickstarter campaign. It’s one of the few times this week people are actually taking time to talk about [pii_pn_fb500b22e25c960edb2a] the beer, not just drink it, and it should be an interesting evening. Means “week.” Most other celebrations this decade have run up to 11 days long, and for the past three years, the whole thing has closed out with a big shebang of a neighborhood beer fest.

The diverse annual Labor Day dance music bash is headlined this year by The Chemical Brothers, Atmosphere, and Chromeo. Avant garde theater pushes boundaries at this local theater fest with a commitment to reach artistically underserved communities. Neighborhood munchies, live bands, and a moon bounce for the kiddies. Live indie bands booked by Subterranean and oddball art, with past installations including inflatable sculptures and flying hawkmen.

Brandon from Embrace the Funk/Yazoo knows how to make some stellar sour beers, and this one was brimming with tart cherry juice and a big tannic dry wine finish. I wish I’d had more to really appreciate its complexity, because there were little Christmas punch spice notes that came off of the last sip. Tequila used to make my gag reflex kick into alert mode, but as I’ve had more and more quality agave spirits from craft distilleries, I find I can appreciate the flavor that much more. The distinct aroma of a shot of tequilla sat in my little taster glass, and it was already well into the third hour of the fest.

Live music will be provided on the train station’s west portico by the Riverside band Hopslager, followed by Leadfoot, described as “Chicago’s freshest post-bluegrass” band. An Evanston-based business, The Amazing Kale Burger, will be selling food at their kale burger bar, which will be located west of the train station. Boutsikakis, who has done home brewing with his two brothers for years, said the beer made at the Craft Beer Fest will be served as samples at this year’s Holiday Stroll in early December.
