If we're being totally honest, when I first started my business the last thing I wanted to do was newborn photography. All I knew were the studio photos of babies wearing costumes in buckets against a colored backdrop - not that there's anything wrong with that style, but I knew it was something I'd never be good at. But with all my close friends having babies this past year, I've had plenty of opportunities to try out a more laid-back, lifestyle approach to newborn photography, and I've kind of fallen in love with it.
Each time I come away from a hospital session or an at-home newborn session, I feel so full and content. I love pretty pictures, but more than that, I love taking photos that are weighty with meaning, and I can't think of anything more meaningful than documenting the first hours of a brand-new person's life. Showing a new mom just how beautiful she is, love and joy exuding out of her like a fireworks show. A dad finally being able to hold his baby and feel their weight in his arms.
All that to say, I was on cloud nine after meeting Liliana and capturing her first sweet, sleepy moments of life. I loved chatting with Brianna and Yerick about the birth story, the excitement and rush leading up to baby's grand entrance, but I'm pretty sure my favorite part of the session was Yerick saying that she looked much less alien-like than he anticipated. On the contrary, she is absolutely beautiful. Congrats, Brianna and Yerick, you guys are going to be amazing parents.
